Week 5 - 2022

Intro

We made it past January! Already 1/12 of the way through this new year. Did you achieve any of your goals in that first month?

I’ve entered February at a slightly slower pace than the new year hustle, but still with a number of great wins this week. It was also the first time I had been able to meet with my team, which was so helpful to get everyone on the same page.

✅ Published my first newsletter

Launching my own newsletter has been on my list for at least 3 years. I knew I wanted to have a space to talk that wasn’t directly just the work I do at Together Films, and yet I procrastinated for months (what exactly would I write about, who might register, how frequently should I post). After a period of coaching before Xmas, I committed to launching a monthly newsletter series, and the first edition dropped on 31st Jan. Including a few recommended playlists (including Dopesick, The Rescue and, Writing with Fire), and Let’s Talk About… Mental Health, the first in a series of more detailed essays.

✅ Recognized the power of LinkedIn

I have made a conscious decision to be more vocal on all of my social channels over the last year, and I previously had found Twitter to be the best for new connections, inspiration/insight, and business opportunities. A few months ago, an old friend from University reach out via LinkedIn as she had seen my updates during our growth period last year. We met this week to discuss an exciting new opportunity that could have a huge impact on new talent in the documentary industry. It’s an initiative that I have wanted to launch for while, and needed some extra capital to make it a reality. From this LinkedIn meeting, the reality is starting to come true. It really goes to show that being vocal about your work can lead to unexpected new opportunities. LinkedIn used as frequently in the film community, however as our work is at the intersection of film, brands and technology, I’m finding way more value than before.

I shared my post about #mentalhealth on LinkedIn and already 25,000 people have seen it, and I’ve gained a load of new followers in the last few days. It seems that being honest about our business growth, and the way that I work is resonating with people.

✅ Registered Together Films Sales Ltd

This week was a big milestone moment, by officially registering our new sales agency, and signing our first hire. We will be able to share the news soon on who we are bringing in. One of the reasons that I signed up for the Inside Picture course was to be able to review this opportunity in more detail. I was able to meet with a variety of agents, speak about the changing business models and financial structures and clarify the vision that we had. It’s very exciting to be building this new department, and hope to share further news on our acquisitions, hires, and first markets soon.

✅ Great in person working day with my team

We transitioned to a fully remote workforce in 2021 (with team members across London, Sheffield, Brighton, Bristol, and NYC). We had seen our productivity improve and our ability to work with a varied client base (by not being restricted by geographic limits). However, I also miss the team interaction a lot. We managed to have 5 team members in Soho on Friday and took a proper lunch break in Chinatown to celebrate.

Feedback this week

“I’ve got total clarity on what to do next, thanks so much for helping me see things like this” - Consultancy client after reviewing their impact campaign strategy.
